Ms. Helen Jeanette Scott was born May 9, 1934 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Cora McCoy Robinson and Herschel Robinson. She spent much of her life as a homemaker raising her seven children. With seven children, Ms. Scott was quite tough in order to keep all the children in line. She enjoyed spending time outdoors whether gardening or visiting the local yard and garage sales. She learned to drive by calling the Sears Roebuck company, which gladly sent out an employee to teach her. After she accomplished driving, she was given the perfect vehicle for her yard-sale adventures, a yellow VW station wagon. She was Baptist by faith and enjoyed her preaching shows, especially “Billy Graham.” In her spare time, she would always have her Bible nearby to read. Throughout the years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially when she would get to travel with her children to various places.
Ms. Helen Jeanette Scott, 83, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at her home. It seems like I have known Helen almost my entire life. Our families go back to our times in Cahokia, specifically St. Rose Lane. Helen and Mom were both raising large families, something so different from our times now. Randy, I remember that there always seemed to be a couple of you boys playing in the front yard of your home. Not sure where Brinda and Linda were, but probably helping your Mom inside….that’s the way it was done then. I am glad that during on our girls’ trips to Alabama, we went over and visited with your Mom. It was a good time and of course, we did talk about her times in Cahokia. We laughed a lot during the visit! Please know that all of us are thinking of you today and wish you peace and love. You’re always in our thoughts and hearts.
