Roy King Hendee, Jr., age 76, of Duluth, finished up the back 9 of life and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, July 15 after a year-long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He loved Jesus, his family and friends, Hilton Head, Hank Williams, BBQ, The Varsity, and Famous Amos cookies. A lifelong Atlanta resident, he graduated from Grady High School and attended Emory at Oxford and Emory University in Atlanta. He was a member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church for over 40 years where he served on various committees during that time. An avid golfer, he was a founding member of Dunwoody Country Club and later a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club for 36 years, where he loved playing golf with his friends in their weekly Wednesday and Friday games. He shared many laughs and good times with them every year at the Yost Invitational golf tournament on Hilton Head Island and loved spending time there with his family and friends at his home at the beach. He began his career in real estate in 1970 and earned the trust and admiration of countless clients and associates over the years while specializing in land sales, development and property management. Roy also served his country in the Georgia Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves. More than anything, Roy valued his relationship with his Heavenly Father and with his family. He was married for 54 years to Ellen Bennett Hendee of Atlanta and was blessed to share his life and career with two adoring sons, Roy K. Hendee III and J. Neal Hendee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy K. Hendee, Sr., and Mary B. Hendee, both of Atlanta, and his beloved Aunt Ellen and Uncle Henry Bowden, all of whom played an intregal role in shaping his wonderful character. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen B. Hendee; his sons Roy K. Hendee, III and J. Neal Hendee; sister Mary Leigh Furrh of Jackson, MS; countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and clients who loved him very much; two dogs Jackson and Jenny Belle Hendee; and one Granddog named Moose. A private memorial service for family members will be held Saturday, August 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Dunwoody United Methodist Church followed by a celebration of Roy’s life for family and friends at 5:00 p.m. at his home in Johns Creek. After all these years still and remember Roy as a friend friend. Our friendship began in the 7th grade at Highland elementary. He’s in my memories forever God bless you Roy. This might appear too late but it’s never too late. I’ll see you again, soon
