Ms. Imogene “Jean” Rowell, age 83, of Forest Park passed away August 15, 2019.
Ms. Rowell was born on November 4, 1935 in Adel, GA to the late Calvin Henry and Cordia Bell Hutchinson. She grew up in the South Georgia, where she met her late husband Aubrey Rowell. The couple wed on January 2, 1952 and had three daughters. Ms. Rowell spent many years as a homemaker caring for her family and raising her children. In 1966, The Rowell family moved to the Atlanta area where Ms. Rowell called home for the remainder of her life. She spent 30 years as a waitress at Piccadilly Cafeteria until her eventual retirement at the age of 77.
Ms. Rowell’s family grew with the addition of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren, all who refer to her as “Nanny.” She was famous within her family for her incredible cooking, particularly her chicken-n-dumplings. She enjoyed feeding those she loved and always cooked a feast for Thanksgiving. Ms. Rowell loved to sing and frequented karaoke bars where she wowed the crowd with country and western hits. She also enjoyed gospel music. Ms. Rowell was a born-again Christian. She loved reading all kinds of books, especially biographies. She was a baseball fan, always loyal to her Atlanta Braves. Even when her eye sight failed her, Ms. Rowell continued to enjoy the sounds and announcers of the Atlanta Braves games. Ms. Rowell will be remembered for her distinctive laugh and her love of singing and having a good time.
Along with her parents, Ms. Rowell was preceded in death by her husband: Aubrey Rowell; sisters: Mary Alice Baldree, Hattie Bell Prine and Glynis Walker; brother: Calvin Henry Hutchinson, Jr. She is survived by her daughters: Peggy Dixon of Forest Park, Audrey (Ricky) Shelnut of Hoschton and Carol Jean Rowell of Peachtree City; grandchildren: Cheryl (Terry) Martin of Forest Park, Wayne (Heather) Dixon of Forest Park, Jennifer Hembree of Bethlehem, Amanda (Jerome) Barnett of Hoschton and Anita Shelnut of Hoschton; great-grandchildren: Kara (Nate) Hogg of Covington, Kaitlyn Robbins of Forest Park, Ashley Martin of Dallas, Nicole Dixon of Cornelia, Marie Dixon of Cornelia, Austin Kennedy of Cornelia, John Brooks of Cornelia, Evelyn Dixon of Forest Park, Hanna Bruchell of Forest Park, Bryson Bruchell of Forest Park, David Clark of Jefferson, Kayla Clark of Jefferson, Haley Barnett of Hoschton, Mason Barnett of Hoschton, Ricky Norton of Hoschton and Keira Hembree of Nicholson; great-grreat-grandchildren: Nizhoni Hogg and Kal-El Hogg, both of Covington; sisters and brothers: Glaydine Mercer of Thomasville, Harris David Hutchinson of Saint Albans, WV, Henry Arthur Hutchinson of Hampton and Wanda Jo Ann Johnson of Carrollton and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Ms. Rowell’s honor on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Trinity Chapel, 1957 Hwy 42 N, McDonough. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com. The Rowell family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 W, Fayetteville.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know your beloved Matriarch of your family will be missed so very much..We are all sure she is with our Lord because of her faith and can find comfort knowing she singing in the heavenly choir.
