October 1, 1952 – November 21, 2021
Dan Capobianco, age 69, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully on November 21, 2021.
He is survived by his father, Phillip Mertens of Schenectady, NY; brothers, Paul (Lin) Capobianco of Maysville, GA, Vince (Colleen) Capobianco of Buford, GA, Matt (Michelle) Mertens of Shelby, VT, and Mark Mertens of Schenectady, NY; sisters, Filixia (John) Gregiore of Snellville, GA, and Christine (Kevin) McDonough of Saratoga, NY; survived by his sons, Micah Capobianco of Kansas City, MO and Jason (Liz) Capobianco of Flowery Branch, GA; his grandson Tristan, a granddaughter on the way, and by many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy; mother, Carmen Mertens; father, Vince Capobianco; and mother, Roberta Capobianco.
Dan grew up in Schenectady, NY with his siblings. At age 18, he hitch-hiked from New York heading to Arizona, stopping in Kansas City, Missouri. He stayed with some folks who shared their Christian faith and hospitality and Kansas City became his home for many years. In Missouri, Dan met his first wife Joyce and they raised their two sons.
He and his family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and then to Alpharetta, GA, where he worked as a homebuilder.
Moving back to Missouri, Dan began a home inspection business and spent his free time entering and winning fishing tournaments throughout the state. In 2000, Dan married his wife Judy. They enjoyed running their business together, spending time with friends and family and playing cards. They moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia in 2008.
In 2013, after the passing of his wife Judy, Dan began Judy House Ministry in her honor and used their home as a transitional facility for men coming out of incarceration and joining the workforce. Dan’s passion and faith led him to believe that men were not defined by their past crimes but their future commitments and loyalties. Judy House offers these men a new lease on life if their choices would lead them in the right direction.
Dan was a member of 12Stone Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia where he led men’s groups, and through the years Dan’s passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ has always inspired him to share his faith with everyone he met as he engaged in life.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to:
Judy House Ministry, 1475 Buford Drive 403- 153, Lawrenceville, GA 30043 https://judyhouse.org/
