Jacqueline “Jackie” Thorne, 65, of Dixie, GA, passed away Tuesday January 17, 2023, at Hospice of Columbus, GA, surrounded by her loving family.
Jackie was born on December 11, 1957, in Wooster, OH to Eugene and Mary Lou (Hitchcock) Frost. She graduated from Triway High school Wooster, OH in 1975 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and Interior Design from Eastern Kentucky University in 1980. She gave birth to her beloved son, Christopher J. Frost, in 1982.
She spent most of her life being an amazing mother to her only son, teaching him life lessons, farming, and the value of treating all of God’s creatures with love. When he entered the US Army, she quickly followed, taking her from Ohio to South Georgia to be close to him. She loved the ocean. Any trip offered to get her toes in the sand, you could bet she would be there.
If Jackie could dream it, you would be guaranteed that she would do it! She had a God given talent for anything creative and artistic. She was known for taking something no one else could envision and turning it into the most beautiful creations. She remodeled homes that were condemned, she made jewelry out of old typewriter keys and knew how to do anything and everything. She gave life to tarnished old “junk” that others would overlook. She truly saw beauty through the simple things in life. Watching her flowers bloom, harvesting her pecan trees and planting elaborate gardens were just a few of her joys, but the greatest joy of all was her family.
She was a free spirit and made sure to instill that same love for life in each of her grandchildren. Some of the amazing memories they will forever cherish are her handmade birthday care packages, sneaking snacks, bedtime stories, her garden plans, and “being great in every single way.” She will truly be missed, but her memory will be cherished through generations.
Jackie was an absolute fighter; she never gave up. God gave her so much more time than any of us could have ever dreamed. We are forever grateful and blessed. We are thankful for all the doctors and nurses who supported her through her battle with cancer, from Ohio all the way to South Georgia.
Surviving is a son Chris (Amanda) Frost, three grandchildren, Madelyn, Easton and Scarlett Frost, a brother Mike (Jenny) Frost, two nieces Jamie (Jared) Hall, and Megan (Chad) Harcrow and many friends who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her father Eugene Frost, mother Mary Lou Frost and baby brother James Frost.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you kindly donate to Columbus Hospice House, www.columbushospice.com, in memory of Jackie or plant something beautiful to watch grow in honor of her “green thumb.”
