James David Strickland, 81, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the Perimeter Rehab Center in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
He was born August 18, 1944, in Wildwood, Florida, the son of Frank C. Strickland and Helen K. Strickland. David retired from the Army as a W4 officer pilot after 20 years of service. He served his country as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and as a pilot instructor for the remainder of his military career. He earned the Bronze Star, among other awards, for heroic service in a combat zone. The Bronze Star honors individuals who have distinguished themselves in military operations against an armed enemy.
He was a faithful member of the Rock Springs Korean Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Frank C. and Helen K. Strickland, and his grandson, Timothy Fuller.
He is survived by his wife, Kyong C. Strickland, Buford, Georgia; daughter, Daphne Renee Fuller; brothers Frank C. Strickland, Tim Strickland, and Mark D. Strickland; stepdaughter Ethel T. Brown; stepson Rogers Thomas, Jr.; grandchildren, Lauren Fuller and David Fuller; and step granddaughter Bianca Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, Georgia, 30046 on February 11, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM with military honors and memorial service at 2 PM.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth is assisting the family with arrangements.
