James Myrlan Ellison, 80, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on June 14, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House of Georgia and Alabama. The family plans to hold a private memorial service.

Mr. Ellison, fondly known as “Jimmy” was born March 31, 1941 in Flat Rock, AL to the late Cora Lee Davidson and Elbert Lafayette Ellison. Jimmy met his wife Priscilla in Palatka, FL. They married in 1961 and moved to Columbus, GA where they started a family and built a life that lasted a loving 54 years until his wife’s passing in 2015. Jimmy worked as a carpenter  for most of his adult life. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Salem, AL. His hobbies included woodworking, traveling to visit relatives, fellowship with church members, spending time with family and friends and University of Alabama football games.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Mae Ellison (Downs), son James Phillip Ellison, father Elbert Lafayette Ellison mother Cora Lee Ellison (Davidson), son in law Jeffrey Randall Sawyer and several siblings.

Survivors include daughter, Angela Ellison Sawyer of Columbus, GA, grandson, Jonathan Brandon Sawyer of Atlanta, GA, granddaughter, Samantha June Sawyer of Columbus, GA,  extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Columbus Hospice House of Georgia and Alabama would be appreciated.

    He was a great man and uncle . Loved his humor and talent for wood working. He is now walking the streets of gold.

    Jimmy was always friendly, funny and inviting. And his love of family.
    I will miss his inserts of coffee and phone time.
    His spirit will live on through his family members.
