Jeffrey Howard Garrett departed this life on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born to and preceded in death by Charlotte Delores Garrett-Coppedge and Joseph Garrett in the heart of Richmond, Virginia, on a very snowy day of the 28th of February. Jeffrey brought a ray of sunshine into their lives as one of seven children and was preceded in death by his sisters, Yvette and Shaundra Garrett.
From his earliest days, Jeffrey’s zeal for life was evident in his love for finding treasures and creating masterpieces. He often got into trouble for his antics as a youngster but that didn’t stop his tenacity, he could whip up a delicious meal and was fondly known as “Chef Jeff”. He enjoyed playing poker and chess with friends and laughing at a good joke. Jeff had a love for his children and watched them blossom into their fullness through strategic educational paths. He insisted that they develop a love for learning young and often. Jeff did not stop there; he was an avid debater and lover of all things sports and politics. He could debate until the sun went down and rose again. Though he never decided on a favorite football team, he always made fun of the Falcons every chance he could. There were a lot of good laughs on Game Day!
His educational journey began in the public schools in Richmond, VA. He graduated from Armstrong High School. After high school he attended Virginia Union University for a short period before transferring to Norfolk State University. He joined Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in the early years of his education experience. He transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University where he received his Bachelors of Science in 1988. He received his Post Baccalaureate in Accounting in 1999. In 2000, he went on to receive his CPA designation at VCU. He joined the Georgia Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Georgia in 2002.
Jeffrey grew up in the church as a youngster, the pastor was also his neighbor. He and his siblings were the faithful congregants. There the foundation was laid and he had a strong belief system that never wavered. If you train up a child in the way he should go (as his mother insisted they were regular church goers), they will not depart from it. His roots were strong and he loved Pastor Lynch as a father, mentor and a living example of Christianity.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Sheila Garrett; his beloved children, Jordan Jeffrey Garrett, Sarah Beavers, Malachi Ali Garrett, Jaden Jeffrey Garrett, and Summer Preete Garrett. Jeff held his siblings dear to his heart, Warren Garrett, Michell Garrett, Lamont Garrett and Wandra Mabry (Steve). He loved his children dearly and wholeheartedly. He will be missed by a host of friends, co-workers and acquaintances that he met along his journey.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth assisted the family with arrangements.
