Joan Marie Turgeon passed away on August 11, 2024, at her home in Jackson, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Orleans,Louisiana, to Myrtle Rochon Woodruff and Edward E. Rochon, Joan was the granddaughter of Homer and Nellie Rochon. She shared over 30 years of marriage with her husband, Robert Turgeon. Joan lived in several U.S. cities and even Winnipeg, Canada, during her career before settling in Jackson after retirement.
Joanie’s academic achievements were remarkable. She graduated with honors from Valena C. Jones School, Rivers Frederick Jr. High, and John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Radio TV Broadcasting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL), where she was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Joan later received a Master of Fine Arts from the International College University of San Diego, and she also pursued a second master’s in architecture.Her love for animals was a constant in her life, and she even earned a certificate in Animal Husbandry. Though she only owned dogs, her dream was to one day have a ranch where she could care for retired horses and host a camp for disabled children.
Joan was a highly respected Production Accountant in the film industry, contributing to major projects over a 30-year career with companies like Netflix, Sony, and NBC. She worked on films such as Men in Black, The Mask of Zorro, and Coraline, and TV shows like Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Her passion for film began in childhood, and she fulfilled her dreams by making a lasting impact in the industry. Joan’s energy, creativity, and kindness touched many lives. She is survived by her husband Robert, her son James Everett Turgeon, daughters Erin Doffoney, Meredith Fairchild, and Joanne Nicole Turgeon, daughter-in-law Pip Wilson, and her grandchildren Davion Green and Nikaila McFall.
