Buddy Bryan, Muscogee County Coroner says
Sonny was a very good friend and will certainly be missed. He fought a very hard battle to the very end. I remember him from as a childhood friend who was very well liked by all those that knew him. I’m not sure how Sonny got his nickname but it fit his attitude toward life—-“in a sunny manner”. Always smiling and had a good story to tell. I can remember him placing 2nd in the soapbox derby in Acorn, Ohio when he was about 12 years old. We played baseball together on the same team and he was a slugger—could hit the baseball a mile.

Sonny was a good and true friend who I met in 1964 at the Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. He was always there when you needed him, and he had a warm and engaging smile that you couldn’t see without smiling back. He had a soft and kind heart and was almost universally loved by animals and children, always the mark of a person of good character. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by so many. RIP brother, you’ll be missed!

We have many laughing times together that I will cherish forever those breakfasts we had together means so much more now I’m so glad that he called for me to come to the rehab and cut his hair if only I’ would have known it was the last time I got to see him. I like so many of Sonnys friends are shocked and saddened by his death. I knew him in his teenage years and we stayed in touch throughout the years. I just wish i had known when i spoke to him that it was the last. I will miss my adventurous buddy forever.
