DULUTH: Johnny Leon Wimpey was born on October 25, 1953, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia to Johnny and Louise Wimpey. He died at Northside Hospital Gwinnett-Duluth on February 19, 2023, of injuries sustained as a pedestrian in a car accident.
Leon graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School in 1971 and went on to obtain his Electrical Engineering Degree from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. Leon went on to have a career as an Electrical Engineer. During his lifetime he was the Maintenance Director of Transportation for the City of Atlanta and an electrical engineer for Georgia Power. At the end of his career, he was the owner of three successful Atlanta carwashes and other real estate properties.
Leon was an animal lover, dogs especially, owning and sheltering dogs and cats. He loved the State of Georgia, the Chattahoochee River, and the city of Atlanta. He loved flowers and all things agriculture. From a young age he joined the Boy Scouts of America and achieved Eagle Scout. Of all of his achievements, he was most proud of becoming an Eagle Scout. He was also a car enthusiast.
He was married to Theresa Hayes Wimpey and Carolyn Cagle Wimpey.
He was Predeceased by his Parents, Johnny and Louise Wimpey, and his Beloved Son, John Robert Cagle, USMC, and his brother, Michael Garrett.
He is survived by his Son, Andrew Leon Cagle, his Aunts, Betty Kilgore and Jean Townsend, and many precious cousins.
On March 23, 2023 Leon’s ashes were scattered at the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River in Helen, Georgia. His Celebration of Life Memorial was March 30, 2023 at Old Union Cemetery in Young Harris, Georgia at 2PM with family.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth assisted the family with end-of-life arrangements.
