Dear Vivian and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. I have wonderful memories of you all and your family on visits to Mom and Poppy Rich’s where the children would ride around Poppy’s back yard in the wagon attached to the tractor screaming and laughing their heads off!
May God’s peace cover your heart and your family.
Love,

Thinking of you Vivian in this time of grief. Know that you and Joe both made many friends along the way and we are all thinking about you. Reach out to us at anytime as some of us have been there before. Think of the happy times and laugh is that is what Joe would want. Remember he just out of sight but never out of mind.

I am shocked. I grew up with Joe on Warren Street in Marietta. I well remember He and I taking typing in summer school, and both getting “F’s.” I spend many rainy afternoons playing board games on their porch. Brother Bill bought our old house. I will be thinking of many, MANY other memories. I mailed him my annual card yesterday.
Teri Vassino says
I am so very sorry for your families loss. We certainly had our share of laughs in Patchogue. My mom and dad adored Joe and You. Many good nights at our kitchen table with laughs and sometimes cards. Maybe they will meet up in heaven and continue their laughs. In my thoughts and prayers. May Joe Rest In Peace.

I was just catching up with Bill and Lynn last Saturday evening at the Hotel.

Gene LaBarre says
Dear Vivian & family,
We are Joe’s LaBarre relatives and we would like to share our family’s remembrances of him.
Uncle Bob is brother of Joe’s dad; Aunt Betty is Bob’s wife; Kris, Gene, & Rob are siblings & Joe’s first cousins.
Uncle Bob first encountered Joe when Joe was an infant living with his mother Evelyn in the Wellsburg, WV home of Joe’s paternal grandparents Joe Sr and Sara. (At the time Joe’s dad was completing his medical training in Boston and Cleveland.) Uncle Bob recalls that Joe was a beautiful baby, much adored by the Wellsburg family and, as first grandchild and first LaBarre baby boomer, he was particularly cherished by his grandmother Sara.
As cousins, we were 4-8 years younger than Joe, and the age separation meant that we looked up to Joe as eldest and most advanced of our generation. We remember Joe as a genial and mischievous host during family visits to Marietta. When he led a cousins-only visit to the Colony theater, his ghost stories as we walked by Mound Cemetery were a fright to us. We also remember Joe’s prodigious memory regarding all facts related to battleships. When Joe got his driver’s license he graduated to godlike status in our esteem – steering one handed around downtown, the radio pretty loud, we thought he was pretty cool. Later when we moved to Marietta, Joe along with his brother and sister welcomed us to the family hometown. At a family get together I remember being assigned to the barbeque pit where Joe was grilling – Joe had me extinguish grease flames with a squirt gun as he flipped the burgers, great fun for a junior cousin. Joe was a high school football star and his celebrity status in town eased the way for us as new kids in the playground and at school.
Joe was a very handsome young man; he inherited the good looks of both his mother and father. We remember his impish smile; he had James Dean/Marlon Brando star appeal, and to us that remains his enduring quality. We all went separate ways in early adulthood, and we had very few intersections afterward. Uncle Bob had occasional communications with Joe later in life and we were thankful to stay informed about him from that source.
We greatly regret Joe’s passing and we wish to convey our support and sympathy to Vivian and all the family. We will always cherish these memories of Joe as our dear nephew and cousin.
Sincerely,
Gene LaBarre, on behalf of Betty, Bob, Rob & Kris
