Joe Walker, age 91, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025. A lifelong resident of Fayette County, Joe was a proud member of the Fayette County High School class of 1954. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force before dedicating his life to hard work and entrepreneurship.
From a young age, Joe worked in the cotton fields alongside his family. At just 17 years old, he began building homes and quickly gained a reputation for his craftsmanship and dedication to quality. Over the years, he wore many hats–farmer, builder, trucker, and junk man–but his true passion was the junk business, which he loved wholeheartedly.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Barnard Baker O’Dell Walker and Mary Lou Huddleston Walker, as well as his brothers, Don O’Dell Walker and Gene Walker. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 66 years, Martha Walker; his children Jimmy (Pam) Walker, daughter Mary Martin; his beloved grandchildren, Faith (Kacey) Barnard, Savannah (Karston) Spradley, Molly Martin and Nicolus Martin; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Brent, Bradlee, Maebry Barnard and Marci Martin. He is also survived by his brother, Barnard (Barney) Walker and wife
Sue of Fayetteville; his sisters Jewell Gable of Fayetteville and Carol Ercheck of Kennesaw; and numerous extended family members.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Joe’s compassionate caregivers Rachel Stewart, Rebecca Crocker, and Donna Caterson and Savannah Walker Spradley.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes, he was cremated, and no formal services will be held. His ashes will be scattered at the family lake, a place he loved and cherished.
