May 10, 1941 – August 10, 2025
With profound love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Joyce Antoinette “Toni” Fonseca, age 84. Toni lived a life rich with warmth and family—leaving behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and grace.
Born on May 10, 1941, in Alameda, CA, she spent her early years in Danville, CA, before moving to Honolulu, HI, where she embraced the island’s beauty and spirit for many years. In her later years, she lived in Hampton, VA, and Heidelberg, Germany, and eventually made her home in Columbus, GA, where she remained close to loved ones.
She is survived by her son Shawn Anthony Fonseca and daughter-in-law Raylene of Honolulu, HI; daughter, Army Veteran Sergeant First Class Michelle Leilani Fonseca of Columbus, GA; and son, Air Force Veteran Technical Sergeant Paul Richard Machado and daughter-in-law Damaris of Wichita Falls, TX.
Her love lives on in her grandchildren:
- From Shawn: Tony Belen, Ashley Victor, Roxanne Montira, Rodney Delgado, Roddrick Delgado, and Rai-Shawn Fonseca
- From Michelle: Tatiana Raines, Dominique Lumpkins, and Alysha Fonseca
- From Paul: Tiara Machado, Isaiah Machado, Devantre Machado, and Juaoquim Machado
—as well as her 29 beautiful great-grandchildren and a devoted group of lifelong friends.
Toni was known for her fierce devotion to family and her dedication to caring for her children. Her journey—like many—was shaped by both love and hardship, and her relationships reflected the complexities of a life fully lived. Despite life’s challenges, she remained a figure of strength and perseverance, and the impact of her presence will continue to echo through those who knew and loved her.
Aloha wau ia ‘oe a mau loa, a hui hou (Love you always, until we meet again).

I love you Auntie Joyce. I pray your soul is finally at its eternal rest in heaven with our Lord & savior, Jesus Christ. My memories of you are from our childhood and a sweet visit as a young adult, but I will always remember your smile, laughter & quiet spirit and the time you made me wash my mouth out with soap. You were always thought of over the years and kept in prayer. I pray in heaven you can finally be reunited with all our loved ones who have gone before us. You have lived a long beautiful life and will always be loved and remembered. Until we meet again Auntie. Aloha

Although, I met Toni only once or twice as a small kid cousin, I had good memories of her. I am so wry for your loss. But her legacy is a great family to cherish her memory. Much love and aloha.
