Katherine Lee Mathes Young, 94, passed away Tuesday morning, August 15, 2023. She was born and raised in Hyde Park, IL on March 28, 1929. She loved Chicago and credited Hyde Park for being the place that nurtured her love of life and her passion for art. Kathie met the love of her life, Arthur Young, and they married on July 20, 1952. Kathie and her husband, Art, raised their 3 children in Munster, IN, and lived together until Art’s passing on May 29, 1999. Their three children, Bill, Cindy, and Liz, were their pride and joy. Throughout her life, Kathie embodied compassion, grace, and dedication to her family. Kathie relocated to Lawrenceville, GA in 2015. Her move to Lawrenceville allowed her family the opportunity to provide the care and comfort she deserved in her later years, surrounded by the familiar faces that meant the most to her.

Kathie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur F. Young, her adored son, Dr. William (Bill) Young, and her brother Jack Mathes, who married her best friend, Suzanne. Left to cherish their fond memories of Kathie are her devoted daughters Cynthia (Cindy and Karl) Antila, and Elizabeth (Liz); and her grandchildren Ryan Antila and Kari (Kurt) Hanna.

Kathie touched our lives with loving kindness and will forever remain as an inspiration.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at her daughter, Cindy’s in Lilburn, GA on October 22, 2023.
