Marietta “Kitty” Clair, November 1, 1924 – February 9, 2021
Kitty died at the age of 96 on February 9, 2021, in Fayetteville, GA.
Kitty was born in Bakersfield, CA on November 1,1924 to John Fred Weber and Mona Van Leer Weber. She spent her childhood in Punxsutawney, PA. In 1943, while working at Mare Island, CA, Kitty met Lawrence “Larry” Clair. Kitty was scheduled to move back to PA with her family. But, after four weeks of dating Larry, Kitty asked if he would write to her. He said he would not. But, they should get married instead. The two eloped on December 12, 1943. They were married for 58 years.
The couple settled in Rockville, CA where they raised their four children. Kitty was skilled in most everything she put her hand to. She was a talented seamstress, making most of her daughter’s clothes during her childhood and teen years. She owned a ceramics studio, where she hosted classes. She painted and continued to take lessons into her late 80’s. She was an avid traveler. She and Larry lived in Guam for two years. They traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Ireland. Kitty was a skilled square dancer, a hobby she kept throughout her entire adult life. Kitty lovedl to crochet and made blankets for each of her great-grandchildren. Kitty and Larry retired in Yuma, AZ, where they were “snowbirds.” The rest of the year they traveled the country and visited with family and the multitudes of friends they made and kept over the course of their life. Kitty had a strong but simple faith that deepened in her later years and was very important to her. Kitty was a life-long learner and independent spirit. She loved to laugh, joke, and play cards, especially the family card game, “Pitch.” She wasla an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Kitty was preceded in death by her father, John Fred Weber, her mother Mona Weber, her brother Fred Weber, her great-grandchild, Riley Buck and on March 5, 2002, her beloved husband of 58 years, Larry Clair.
