Laverne Crenshaw was born November 5, 1960 in Virginia to John Harrision, Sr. and the late Helen Garrett Harrison. She worked many years in the healthcare industry and cooked in the mess hall on post at Fort Benning. She was a devoted member of Cusseta Road Church of Christ for over ten years. She enjoyed helping with various projects at church. She kept to herself most of the time and could often find her reading and discussing the bible. She loved to cook and listen to gospel, but her favorite pasttime was spending time with her family, especially on their annual family beach trip.
Laverne Crenshaw, 59, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on August 1, 2020 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital. She is preceded in death by her late mother and sister, Jonnetta Brown.
Survivors include her father, John Harrison, Sr of Maryland; children, Unekia (Zachary) Johnson and Ralfauel Crenshaw, Sr. all of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Ta’niya, Asiana, Ralfauel Jr., Caleb, Skyler, Harmony, Jordan, Caiden, Mariyah, and Amire; siblings, John Harrison Jr. and Khalilah Harrison; and a host of extended family, church family, and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.

My condolences to brother Rafauel and Big Sister Unekia. Mama Crenshaw was apart of my upbringing and just all around appreciation of being able to have a home away from home. Growing up and always hanging with my brothers Leonard, Rafauel, and Dewight over Ralf house. Mama Crenshaw always cooked a hot meal and also feeding 4 young active kids like ourselves was no short order. She always included us and treated us like her own kids. Even after finish eating we always had to make sure we go knock on her door and say thank you for feeding us! Also just allow us just to be boys and a place to hangout. Some of the best memories growing up was being at Mama Crenshaw home and hanging with my brothers! You will be truly missed!

She got after me about eating out all the time and she cooked for me one time. I had to find one of her churches for us to attend on Sun. I loved her so much, never thought I wouldn’t see my sister again. Children and grandchildren she talked about and loved so much. She loved God. I pray that life will be well for you kids and grands. I know she taught you well.

The many phone calls and text messages we shared, she always was concerned about my family. She never left God out of the conversations. She always made sure to pool press me to go to church and to raise him. I miss the conversations, I’m truly lost for words. I also miss the words of encouragement she gave me. I will never ever forget her, Laverne will always be in my heart. Oh gea, she called me by my middle name Lewis. She for some reason liked that name. So it became s pool special to me as well. Rest easy friend, you was always close to God. Now you can see him for yourself. Arthur lewis Mason
