Lisa Denise Hopper, age 57, passed away quietly at her home during the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Though her illness took a toll on her body, her spirit and faith remained strong, and her strength and courage inspired many others.
Lisa was born on September 17, 1962 in Forsyth, Georgia. She was the daughter of Herschel Clemoth Hopper and Bertha Burton Hopper, who both preceded her in death. She attended high school at Monroe Academy in Forsyth and graduated as valedictorian in 1980. Lisa was a University of Georgia alumnae, graduating in 1984 with a BS degree in Industrial Arts. Employed by the Gwinnett County School System as a middle school industrial arts teacher, she began her career at Pinckneyville Middle School. Lisa then became the Technology Specialist at Pinckneyville before moving to the Gwinnett County Instructional Support Center in the student information department. She retired November 30, 2015 after 30 years of service. At that time, she was Coordinator of Application Programming for eClass.
Lisa belonged to the Duluth First United Methodist Church. She was a talented photographer and a great lover of all cats, including her own four, as well as the many that she fostered through Planned PEThood of Georgia. She loved to garden and to spend time with family. She was a huge UGA Bulldog fan and loved her Atlanta Braves through thick and thin. Lisa was a friend to many and an adored sister, aunt, and great-aunt.
She is survived by her sister, Janice Hopper (Robert Johnstone); brother, David Hopper (Sharon); niece, Jennifer Kerr (Nathan); and great niece, Seren Kerr.
Plans are being made for a memorial service in the near future at Duluth First United Methodist Church, 3208 Duluth Hwy 120, Duluth, GA 30096.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Planned PEThood of Georgia, 2860 Buford Hwy, Duluth, Georgia 30096.
