Mrs. Lois Hammond Mauldin, age 89, of Atlanta, passed away January 1, 2020.
Lois was born in Honea Path, SC on May 4, 1930 to the late George and Bertha Hammond. Lois grew up on her family’s farm alongside her six sisters and one brother. She then worked as a seamstress at a shirt plant, followed by a few cotton mills.
Lois was a lifelong faithful Christian. While singing in the choir at the Church of God she met her future husband Jack Mauldin. They wed on May 24, 1952. After moving to Atlanta in 1955 Lois attended and graduated Massey Business College. From there she began her career as a key punch operator at the Fulton County Welfare Department. She also joined the office softball league as catcher, making a few home runs for the team. Next Lois was employed at Fort McPherson to be closer to her family, where she was recognized for her key punch accuracy.
In 1962 Jack and Lois opened Mauldin Piano Company. The two built the business, side by side, for 50 years, eventually closing its doors and retiring in 2012. The remainder of Lois’ life was spent with family and enjoying one another’s company.
She was full of unconditional love, particularly for her family. She had a contagious laugh and a loving heart. She will be deeply missed by her many grandchildren, daughters and most of all by her favorite person and comforter, her husband Jack.
Along with her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her daughter: Jackie DeLay; grandchildren: Josanna DeLay, Michael Vaughn and Michelle Vaughn; brother: Charles Hammond; sisters: Eunice Fulbright and Alma Cantrell. She is survived by her husband of 67 years: Jack P.
