Mrs. Martha Grace Leverette Morton, age 68, of Jackson, passed away May 8, 2020.
Martha was born on August 7, 1951. She grew up in Jackson, GA alongside two sisters. She graduated from Jackson High School and shortly thereafter was wed to Gene Morton. Martha became a mother and raised her children while working as a hotel night clerk. She pursued her career aspirations by enrolling in Gordon College and eventually became a Registered Nurse. Martha had a successful career of more than 30 years of working in various hospitals as well as a home health nurse. She was an excellent nurse who loved taking care of people.Martha was a born-again Christian and longtime member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Jackson. She enjoyed cross stitching and crocheting. Martha put her love into her crafts which she gave as gifts to family and friends. She was easy-going and preferred spending her time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. Martha was a very involved Maw Maw and Grandma to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could frequently be found at the kids’ ball games and other events. She was the matriarch of her family. Memories of Martha will be forever cherished by her family.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Clarence Eugene “Gene” Morton; son: Tommy Morton; grandson: Ryan Ray; mother: Katherine Burgan Leverette; father: Thomas Homer Leverette. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Lori and Steve Dague of Cornelia, Amelia and Steve Davies of Forsyth, Kayla and Micheal Tanksley of Jackson, Fran and Dale Brock of Americus; grandchildren: Chris & Sarah Dague, Josh Dague, Brandon Dague, Katie & Cory Adkins, Vickie & Teddy Wright, Matt Davies, Shawn Tanksley, Shyann Tanksley, Shaedon Tanksley, Taylor Morton, Madison Morton, Justin Potter and Cody Pitts; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Dottie & David Varnadoe and Nancy and Thomas Dexter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate the lives of Martha and her husband Gene, who passed just 11 days prior to Martha. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com. The Morton family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville.
