Michael Foster was born to Marcia Carden Foster and John Allen Foster in Columbus, Georgia where he lived throughout his life.
Imaginative and curious, Michael enjoyed creative work. He was a prodigious reader and as a young child, Michael sometimes terrified his family by disappearing to the bookstore or the library. He was especially keen on mythologies which led him the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game, where he met many friends and became a lifelong player and judge. After high school, Michael studied cabinet making and culinary arts at Columbus Technical Institute. He relished utilizing his culinary training with inventive cocktails and dishes for family and friends. Eager to put his interests to work for the community, Michael loved his time volunteering at the Columbus Library and for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Christmas Charity event.
As a family member and friend, Mike was loyal and eager to assist anyone who needed help. He also inherited the family stubborn streak and was not easily swayed in his thinking. Mike met life’s challenges with a tenacity and a sense of humor that he retained throughout his fierce and short struggle with Covid-19. He was loved by so many and will be profoundly missed. We will remember his extraordinary spirit and good deeds. Our lives are richer for having known Mike and for the lessons he had for us all.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, grandfather Lewis Carden, and cousin Jeremy Sewell. Survivors include his mother; sisters Claire and Jennifer (Jon); aunts and uncle Cynthia (Marvin) and Karen (Roy), and James (Marlo); cousins Amber (Ashley), Amanda, and Shamri; and many dear friends and kin.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Michael Foster was a student and friend at Columbus Tech and is greatly missed. He was an Officer in our Gamer Club and regular attended meetings. He attempted to teach me the Yu-Gi-Oh card game which was fun to try and learn. He made a wood holder for GameCube controllers for us and would regularly bring us food from culinary. A funny and fun loving guy! Our community was improved by his presence and potential and will be at loss for his absence.
