Mr. Melvin Royce “Rozie” Allen

Melvin Royce Allen, 73 of Columbus, Georgia, died Friday, July 23, 2021, at his home.

Royce, (or Rozie) as he was best known by his family and friends, was born April 4, 1948, in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of William Sidney Allen and Ada Neff Pike. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service, he served 12 years in the National Guard.  Royce was a mechanic and worked many different jobs around the Columbus Area for many years prior to his declining health. He was a coin collector, member of DAV, enjoyed hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved stepfather Charles Hammonds.

He is survived by his wife Martha Wood Allen of Columbus, Georgia; children James R. Allen of Louisville, KY; Nicolas Allen of Columbus, GA; Peg Sneed of Columbus, GA; Joseph Allen (Amber) of Columbus, GA; Katrine Palkoska (Frank) Columbus, GA; sister Linda McDaniel of Indiana; grandchildren Stephanie (Scott), Lucas, Mae, MacKayla, JD, Francis, and Merritt and great-grandchildren Jay and Cara, nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Special family friend Heather Wurst.

Memorial Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM (EST) Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, with Military Honors. Please abide by Covid-19 Pandemic guidelines while attending the service. Mask will be required.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in memory of Royce to the John B. Amos Cancer Center or Columbus Hospice.
