Nancy Kay Deichert

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Nancy Kay Deichert, 89, of Sharpsburg, GA, passed away on March 1, 2026.

Nancy was born on June 12, 1936, in Ansonia, OH, to Kenneth Ray and Kathryn Pearl (McKibben) Derr.  She grew up on her family’s farm in Lewisburg, OH, and was the oldest of the couple’s four kids.

After high school, Nancy attended Bowling Green State University, where she met Walter George Deichert, a student from Fremont, OH.  The two married in Fort Wayne, IN, on January 8, 1957.  Over the next eleven years, they had five children.  During this time, they lived in Michigan and Ohio before relocating to Melbourne, FL, and eventually settling in North Palm Beach, FL, in the late 1960’s.  Nancy and Walter enjoyed 46 years of marriage until he passed away in 2003.  Several years after Walter’s death, Nancy moved to Georgia to be closer to family.  She lived in Lilburn for a few years before going to the Newnan/Sharpsburg area in 2014.

After she retired from her first career as a bank teller, Nancy went back to work as a dental receptionist.  She absolutely enjoyed her new profession.  Her outgoing personality and friendliness were assets everywhere she went.  In her free time, Nancy loved to knit and cook different types of dishes, and she was known for making the best homemade pickles.  She also loved to grow roses, orchids, and other house plants.  She frequently put miniature roses in small vases and gave them to friends to brighten their day.  Nancy was also considered a fashionista, often wearing fashionable hats, shoes, and unique jewelry.

For the last several years, Nancy spent a lot of time hanging out with her family, and she embraced smart phone technology as a modern form of communication.  She loved to text, talk on the phone, and FaceTime with family and friends.  She also kept up with her grandchildren’s sporting events and watched their baseball games on Game Changer.  During her down time, she developed a fondness for playing the game Wordscapes.

Twice a week Nancy would visit the infusion center, which she lovingly referred to as the sorority house.  Her infusion nurses, whom she considered her sorority sisters, nicknamed her Fancy Nancy and loved on her every week for the past eleven years.  Fancy Nancy was so grateful to her sorority sisters and the entire staff at the infusion center.

Nancy’s family and friends will forever remember her love for Jesus, her smile, her keen sense of humor, her love of food and fashion, and her knack of beautifully decorating for the different seasons and holidays.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband: Walter George Deichert; her parents: Kenneth Ray and Kathryn Pearl (McKibben) Derr; her brother: Thomas Allen Derr of Chaska, MN; and, her sister: Jennie Lee Alley of Lewisburg, OH.  She is survived by her brother Dennis DeWitt Derr of Canton, GA; by her 5 children: Dawn Christine Deans (Mike) of Lilburn, GA, Amy Lee Deichert of Jacksonville, FL, Douglas Derr Deichert of Lilburn, GA, Andrew David Deichert of Vero Beach, FL, and Kerry Ann Boone (Mike) of Sharpsburg, GA; by her 14 grandchildren: Stephen Deans, Justin Deans (Keara), Branden Deans (Lenay), Corin Deans, Nathan Deans (Elaine), Natalie Deans, Emily Erickson (Jordan), Sara Freshour (Dustin), Sekani Deichert, Courtney Lozano (Andrew), Presley Boone, Sawyer Boone, Collins Boone, and Grisham Boone; and, by her 14 great-grandchildren: Ian Deans, Ethan Deans, Gavin Deans, Logan Deans, Hunter Deans, Tallen Deans, Warren Deans, Thorin Deans, Ryker Deans, Raegan Erickson, Asher Erickson, Lillian Freshour, Zayne Lozano, and Roman Lozano.
