February 11, 1934 – December 31, 2024
Nell S. Bass, 90, of Norcross, GA, passed away peacefully at her home on December 31, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Glen Painter and Bill Bass.
Born on February 11, 1934, in Brasstown, NC, Nell was the cherished daughter of Ham and Mable Scroggs.
In 1959, Nell moved to Atlanta, GA, with her first husband, Glen Painter, where she built a life filled with dedication and love. A hardworking and talented individual, she owned a business and worked in accounting for more than 40 years.
Nell was a woman of many talents. She was an avid reader and was widely known for her legendary homemade biscuits. Her skills as a seamstress were unparalleled, often creating and repairing garments without the need for a pattern. She found joy in gospel music and lived her life with a deep faith and love for the Lord.
Nell is survived by her three children: Brian Painter (Diane) of Lilburn, GA; Susan Millikin of Stockbridge, GA; and Karen Painter of Norcross, GA. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Keith Allen (Jennifer), Kelli Sas (Eric), Courtney Millikin, Alyssa Millikin, Shannon Millikin, Brittany Allen, and Troy Allen, as well as three great-grandchildren, William Sas, McKenna Malone, and Daxton Malone.
A celebration of Nell’s life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, GA.
Her family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring her remarkable life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Helping Mamas of Norcross, GA, at https://helpingmamas.org/.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sweet Nell, thanks for the meals you provided for us back in the day & letting me crash at your house Most importantly thanks for introducing me to The Lemon Peel & Johnny’s HideA Way. You were truly remarkable, smart & beautiful . Anyone who wears full makeup & can still walk in heels in their 80’s, is a true inspiration. I doubt I’ll be doing that. But here’s to you lady with love 👠
