Patricia Ann Rochon Holmes of Duluth, Georgia, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Patricia was born in Rayne, Louisiana from the holy marriage of Joseph Rochon and Naomi (Parker) Rochon who both preceded her in death. She was the eldest of three children.
Patricia (Pat) was joined in holy matrimony to Leroy Holmes, Jr. on July 10, 1965. She and Leroy met and fell in love at Xavier University of Louisiana and enjoyed living and loving life together in multiple states including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia. Two children were born of their union, Damon LeRoi and Candace Naomi DeLisa Holmes.
She was baptized into the Catholic faith at a very early age and was an active parishioner at St. Scholastica Church in Detroit, Michigan, and most recently at St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth, Georgia. Pat always prided herself on knowing how to cook and cook she did! From oyster rice dressing, to gumbo, to smothered pork chops, to fried catfish, she did it all and prepared every meal with the most important ingredient…LOVE.
Pat loved educating others both personally and professionally. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University of Louisiana, a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and an Education Specialist degree from Oakland University. She was two classes away from completing her doctorate in education. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She touched countless lives and made positive and lasting impressions on all she met. She retired from the Detroit Public School System as Redford High School’s English Department Head.
She will always be remembered by everyone for her faith, her zest for life, her witty tongue, always having her hair and nails done, her fashion sense, her outlook on life, not ever meeting a stranger, helping others always, being supportive, and truly seizing each and every moment of her days on this earth. She was her own person and lived her life exactly how she saw fit. She had a freedom about her that was infectious and was a God-given gift that she shared with her family, friends, and a few fortunate others.
Pat was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Glen Rochon. She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her loving and devoted husband, Leroy, brother, Lennis Rochon (E. Glenn), two children, two granddaughters, Corinne and Kendall Smiley, and a host of family members, friends, and former students.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to her, her husband’s and her daughter’s alma mater, Xavier University of Louisiana, Class of 1961. www.xula.edu
