Patricia Jean Mitchell, 84, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 21, 2023. She was born on August 25, 1939, to James and Kathryn (O’Connor) Benson. She graduated from St. Gabriel High School in 1957 and the University of Detroit in 1961. On May 19, 1962, she married Paul Mitchell.
Pat was born, and lived most of her life, in and around Detroit, Michigan. She also lived in Albany NY, MacDill Air Force Base FL, Tavares FL, and Decatur GA. She was a talented chemist at the General Motors Research Labs for 32 years; previously, she was a science teacher. Pat was helpful, generous, empathetic, smart, hardworking, and fun. She had a beautiful singing voice, played the piano, and liked musicals. She enjoyed spending time with family, holidays, and other celebrations, traveling, shopping, and fashion. Pat had a great love for and dedication to, her family and friends. She was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Pat is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Paul; three children Patricia (David Homa) Mitchell, Mark (Anne) Mitchell, and James (Carolyn) Mitchell; nine grandchildren: Benjamin, Alana, and Tyler Homa; Ripon and Payton Mitchell; and Jonathan, Matthew, Andrew and Steven Mitchell. She also is survived by nieces Dawn, Jennifer, Michelle, Caron, Allison, Kate, and Beth; brother-in-law Robert (Christine) Mitchell and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Kathleen (Phillip) LaChance, father-in-law Albert (Madge) Mitchell Sr., brother-in-law Albert Mitchell Jr., and seven aunts.
The family would like to thank the staff of Benton House Assisted Living and the staff of Capstone Hospice for the loving care they provided.
A private memorial service will be held on October 7, 2023, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
Georgia Cremation in Duluth assisted the family with arrangements.

Paul, I have just now learned that Pat passed away in Sept. I am so sorry. I know what this is like to be left without your spouse.
Pat was a friendly, smart, fun person to be with and I will never forget the wonderful times we had in the ROTC, in Angel Flight and all the other activities.
I send my prayers your way and hope God will give you the comfort to carry you through this difficult time.
