Peggy Frazier Surles entered her Heavenly home on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Westhill Newnan Crossing’s Memory Care Community in Newnan, GA. Born in Mobile, AL on June 9, 1931, Peggy moved with her family to St. Simons Island, GA, then moved with them to the Atlanta, GA area. She was predeceased by her father and mother Lloyd L. Frazier, Sr. and Virginia W. Frazier, brothers Lloyd L. Frazier, Jr. and Richard R. “Bobby” Frazier, and sisters Florence F. Henry, Patsy V. Frazier, and baby sister Emily Frazier.
Peggy graduated from West Fulton High School in 1948, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader, having a lead role in the senior play, and making lifelong friendships. West Fulton High School was also where Peggy met Joseph E. Surles, who played football for the West Fulton Owls. They married on May 30, 1952 and spent 70 years together until Joe’s passing on April 23, 2023.
As a dedicated, kind, sweet, and loving person, Peggy adored their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Beverly (Ken) Fordham, Brenda (Gary) Eller, Elaine (Randy) Miller, and Melinda Bailey Buck (CDR-Gregory R. Buck, USN-Retired). Also, among her survivors are 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy began a lengthy career at Everett Seed Company in East Point, GA. Her meticulous bookkeeping skills were an asset to the company. After transitioning to work in the banking industry as a Trust Services Associate at Bank of America, numerous awards were received in appreciation of her hard work, dedicated service, and caring heart for the customers and fellow employees. Peggy retired from Bank of America in 2007 at the age of 75.
During her working years, Peggy found time for hobbies that made her smile. Everything she created was a work of art. Sewing, crocheting, and gardening were favorite pastimes. Writing poetry became a creative outlet that allowed her to share words of wisdom with others. Beginning in the ’80s, Peggy excelled as an artist and enjoyed painting with oils, watercolors, acrylics, and colored pencils. Learning to mat and frame her own art as well as framing art for others was an added bonus. Peggy loved being a member of the Southwest Artists League and served as president in 1990.
Vacationing in the North Georgia mountains and at beaches in Florida with family and friends brought her immense joy. As an accomplished photographer, Peggy took delight in photographing landscapes, seascapes, and nature of all kinds.
Being a lifetime member of the Baptist church, Peggy loved teaching preschoolers in Sunday School. We will never forget her lovely smile and her love for Jesus.
