Ray Edwin Tyner, Jr. passed from this life on September 6, 2024. Ray was born in Savannah, Georgia on November 11, 1947, to parents Ray and Carleen Tyner. He grew up in Cordele, Georgia where he was affectionately known as Butch. Ray graduated from Crisp County High School in 1965. He furthered his education at Georgia Tech, obtaining his MBA from Georgia Southwestern.
He met the love of his life, Dee Gleaton when they were children. They married on September 26, 1970, and had two boys, Ed and Hugh. Ray served in the United States Army as an officer for 26 years retiring as Lt. Colonel in 1995. For the last 29 years he enjoyed a second career as a project manager for the US Army Reserves. The Army moved his family throughout the years to many places including Washington, South Korea, Texas, Alabama, Virginia and Georgia.
Ray was a member of Peachtree City Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed golf, military history, gardening, and traveling with his family and friends. Ray also spent time as a youth soccer coach for many years. He loved his dogs and cats throughout the years, each was special to him.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents Ray E. Tyner Sr. and Carleen Gaddy Tyner. He is survived by his wife, Dee Gleaton Tyner of Peachtree City, GA, his sons Ray Edwin Tyner III (spouse Fabienne Poulain) of Columbia, SC, and Hugh Gleaton Tyner (spouse Becky Limanni) of Denver, CO, his grandchildren Wesley David, Benjamin Charles, and
Cecelia Marie, and siblings Hubert M. Tyner of Cartersville, GA and sister Kimberly Jones (spouse Nigel) of Chattanooga, TN.
Ray will be remembered as a compassionate, honest man who was a hard worker, always dependable, and had a great sense of honor. He loved his family and always appreciated a good joke.
A memorial celebrating Ray’s life will be in the Garden of Celebration at Peachtree City UMC on October 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Southwest Christian Care.
