Richard A. Ousey, 88 years of age, passed on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in his home and by his loving and devoted wife’s side of 28 years, Conchetta Edwards Ousey.
Richard was born on May 12, 1936 in Los Angelas, California to the late Richard Arthur Ousey and Marie Olive Ozias. He was the oldest of four children, two preceding him in death (Jay B. Ousey of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Ellen B. Ousey-Hicks of Alexander, Arizona).
Richard served 20 honorable years in the US Navy (1954-1973) and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in July 1973. His time served included positions as an Aircrew and Submarine member and working on surface ship duty, combat service in the Dominican Republic, and also encompassed the Korean and Vietnam War eras. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1976, and furthered his education with a Masters and Ph.D from the New Jersey Institute of Technology by 1982. After his illustrious military career in the Navy, Richard pursued a secondary career at Total Systems (TSYS) in Columbus, Georgia and retired in January 2003.
Richard met and married “his honey” in 1996, and he and Conchetta enjoyed an unforgettable life of sea cruises (28 to be exact!) and ballroom dancing, all the way up until he became disabled in 2014. Remaining side by side in their love for one another, Richard was never one to complain regardless of his physical setbacks, and his positive nature will always be a part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Richard is survived by his wife, Conchetta Edwards Ousey; children, Cynthia M. Ousey-Stipek of Wrightwood, California and Valencia A. Ousey-Claycomb of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; grandchildren, Danielle Nelson (Carl), Christi Raymond, Aaron Claycomb (Michelle), Lindsay Claycomb (Thomas Greenwell), Savannah Thompson, Ian Thompson, Grier Thompson; great grandchildren, Madeline Flanders, Cole Claycomb, Chloe Claycomb, Archer Greenwell; sister, Ricky L. Ousey-Shunkweiler of Brenham, Texas. He is also preceded in death by his son, Richard Ousey, and grandchildren, Joseph Lane and Allyson Lane.
A private burial service with military honors will be held at a later scheduled date at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please donate to charities of your choice in Richard’s memory.
Georgia Cremation – Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.
