In Loving Memory of Robert William Eichhammer
July 24, 1956 – February 13, 2026
He grew up in Maryland, and after graduating from Duke University, he moved to Georgia.
Dr. E, as they called him, was an award-winning optometrist. He took immense pride in caring for generations of families who trusted him with their vision. To him, his patients were never just appointments on a schedule — they were people whose stories he remembered, whose milestones he celebrated, and whose well-being he genuinely cherished. His dedication earned him recognition as Best Optometrist in Fayetteville, created by one of his patients, a reflection of the profound impact he had on his community.
He was a Duke Blue Devil through and through, never missing a basketball game. Go Duke!
Beyond his professional achievements, he lived life fully and adventurously. He was well traveled and found particular peace at the lakes in Banff National Park, a place that brought him serenity and joy. Bob also enjoyed playing pickleball and tennis with his friends.
An avid dog lover, Bob poured endless love into his beloved pets. It brings comfort to know he will be greeted by the dogs who meant so much to him. His kindness extended not only to animals but to every person he encountered. He was known for his generosity, whether through thoughtful gifts, his time, or simple acts of care. He made it his mission to ensure others were happy and supported, often placing their needs above his own. He always sought to create fun, laughter, and lasting moments with those he loved.
In 2014, while on vacation in California, Bob survived a serious accident that tested him in unimaginable ways. Pulling through against all odds, he demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience — qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Robert William Eichhammer will continue to live in the memories of his loved ones. He will be remembered as a kind, selfless memory-maker and dedicating his life to caring for others.
He has left us with a legacy of compassion, strength, and love.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking loved ones to make a charitable donation to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. It is a non-profit animal rescue. Bob loved dogs and it would be a more meaningful donation in his name.
A Celebration of Life service for Bob will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Georgia Cremation – Fayetteville, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville, Ga 30214. The service will begin 11:00 am and guests will be welcome to visit until 1:00 pm.
Messages of condolence may be shared by visiting www.GeorgiaCremation.com. The Eichhammer family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation – Fayetteville.

My heart is breaking, but I know why God took Dr. Eichhammer when he did, so that he will always be remembered with love. My Mom has been a patient of Dr. E’s for many years. She always bragged about him, how loving & caring he was. I was in a horrific car accident that I have no memory of being in. I’ve been told it’s the bodies way of protecting your mind so that you don’t remember when really bad things happen. I read the jaws of life had to be used to get me out of my car. The only reason I am alive is because of God. I am a living breathing miracle just like Dr. Eichhammer. This was a bond we shared because we know how valuable our time is on this earth. We sometimes would share this to help encourage & uplift people around us that may need that. We also shared our sense of humor & many laughs. He is forever in my heart. Until we meet again my friend, until we meet again.
Susan Offord says
Dr E was more than my doctor. He was a Blue Devil and I was a Tarheel. We always had lively discussions during my visits so much so that sometimes the eye exam was secondary. This is a shock but there is a reason and God knows why. I will truly miss my friend. Rest in Peace my Blue Devil friend.
Tess Abello says
It breaks my heart to hear that we lost our sweet, kind and dearest friend Bobby… I will always treasure and cherish our fond memories that the four of us shared. You, Madhvi, Doug and I playing pickleball, and shooting pool and darts games and late nights Waltz, Salsa dancing and card games…, but, the most fun ever was when you, Madhvi and I went to see the Celtics women in concert. We had the best time it was a BLAST!!! On the way back we were cracking jokes and being silly like teenagers, we could not catch our breath from laughing uncontrollably! I have not laughed so hard like that in a very long time… I will miss you my dear friend…
Audrey Allen says
I was So shocked and sad when Madhvi called to tell me that Dr. E had passed away. He has been my Optometrist for years….. He was always So very kind and interested in what had been going on in my life. He was a friend who I will miss terribly!!
Rest in peace sweet friend…..🙏🙏

I’ve been a patient of Dr E since he was in East Point. It was so nice to see him, and we always found funny things to talk about and laugh about. He always remembered and asked about things I was doing, and pickleball was a popular subject. My deepest sympathy, he will be missed.

Dr. E. has been my optometrist for almost 40 years. My last visit was in January of this year. I am so shocked at his passing. He was not only caring and competent but he was a friend who always greeted me by name and smiled at seeing me. He always asked about my health and my family. I will truly miss his wonderful care and concern.

I just saw that Dr.E has gained his wings. When I saw him in December, we were discussing our birthdays that we will be 70 years old in July . What a shock he was such a kind and patient doctor RIP

My sincere condolences to Dr. Eichhammer’s family. Dr. E. was my family’s Optometrist since his practice was in East Point. I saw him last December when I would have taken my parents for their check up.
I called today to schedule my appointment only to be told Dr. E. gained his wings.
He was simply one of a kind. Rest in peace Dear Dr. E. and a heartfelt thanks for your care and service.

I recently had the pleasure of seeing him in November 2025 for my annual visit. He was by far my favorite Eye Doctor he made you feel truly like a friend rather than just a patient. I deeply appreciate his honesty and integrity, never attempting to profit from you. He was genuinely caring, educating with compassion and sincerity. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues, patients, and friends during this difficult time. Rest peacefully, Dr. E.
Vicki Farrell says
My family and I are so saddened to hear of Bob’s passing, Jeri. Bob was our eye doctor for many years. He was so caring and wanted to hear about our lives and how we were doing during each visit. Also, I truly enjoyed the time I played tennis with you Jeri and I was honored to have known Dr. E as well over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May Bob rest in peace.
Sharon Deason says

Gary Owen says
Shock and disbelief. I just had my annual exam with Bob four weeks ago and we talked about restaurants in Peachtree City, going to gym and life in general. Bob was my Optometrist for forty plus years and I looked forward to seeing him every year. He was a very good person.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. I know I will never forget his professionalism and kindness.
Barbara Miller says
It was so shocking to hear the Dr. E. has passed away . My husband and I have been his patients for many years. He was a very kind and caring doctor. We always knew he had our best interest at heart.
Susan Davis says
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Dr. E’s passing. He has been my eye doctor for over 40 years, beginning in East Point. He always greeted me with a smile and with my first name. He remembered different things going on in me and my husband’s lives and would ask about them, which was unbelievable, with all the patients he had. We would talk about our dogs and his and our places in E. TN. He was the best doctor out of all of my doctors that I’ve ever had or known, so compassionate, knowledgeable, witty, with a knack for making one feel comfortable and at-ease when discussing eye issues. He always took up time explaining things in detail and not in a hurry to get one in and out. My condolences to his family, he was loved by everyone who knew him and will truly be missed.
Marywill DuDomaine says

Andrew Feinberg says
I like others here was also shocked and very saddened to learn of Bob’s unexpected passing. It was a privilege to know and work with him for over twenty years. He was a great doctor, caring, hard working, and compassionate, and was widely respected and admired by his patients and peers as is seen by the outpouring in this space. He took excellent care of the countless patients we shared over those years, and I always knew I could easily trust our surgical patients in his hands. Thankful for our years working together. Rest in peace, Bob. You will be greatly missed.
J. Fason says
It is very sad that he is gone. I had my eye appointment with him exactly one week before he passed. He was always in good spirits and was very thorough the way he explained things.
He is the only Optometrist that my son has ever seen and he is 17 yo now.
Dr. E will truly be missed. I am sending my prayers and condolences to the family.❤️
