Roger Lee Spires

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Roger Lee Spires July 26, 1961 – June 20, 2025

Roger Lee Spires, age 63, of Cordele, Georgia, passed away on June 20, 2025, just days shy of his 64th birthday. Born July 26, 1961, in the old hospital in Ashburn, Georgia, Roger was a lifelong resident of South Georgia whose heart was rooted in the land, the backroads, and the family he held dear.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved parents, David “Doc” Rogers Spires and Jewel Passmore Spires, as well as his sister, Gayle Spires Green. He is survived by his sister, Connie Spires Hart, brothers Steve Spires and Daniel Jackson Spires.

Roger is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Angelia Spires, whom he married on August 26, 2017. Together they shared a blended and cherished family. He was the proud father of three sons: Robert Nicholes Spires, Michael Wayne Spires, and Daniel Justin Spires. He also embraced his stepchildren as his own: Jon Varnes, Barry Reece Jr., Cassie Coleman, and Kayla Allin. He will be deeply missed by his 14 grandchildren, Abigail, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Rianna, Gavin, Grayson, Rivers, Tucker, Cole, Ryan, Khloe, Colby, Wyatt, Flint as well as nieces and nephew Nicole Mccombs, Stephanie Cape Brittain and Ryan Barton.

Roger found his greatest joy outdoors. He lived for long dirt road rides, always stopping to admire and recount every animal he came across with detailed enthusiasm. His connection with nature was matched only by his passion for farming. Every year he tended a garden with care, and his favorite reward was sharing the bounty with friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Though not one for deep emotional conversations, Roger had a story for every moment and never met a stranger. He was a gifted craftsman, able to build anything his hands could imagine-whether it was with wood, metal, or a little ingenuity. Roger’s legacy is one of quiet strength, simple joys, and a deep love for family and the land. He will be remembered for his wit, his skills, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

A service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held on Saturday June 28, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Bay Springs Baptist Church, 161 Bay Springs Rd. Arabi, GA, 31312.’
The Spires family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville.

I grew up with Roger and later became his step sister. He was the kindest person I know. I remember how good he was to my mama, he would bring her bounties from his garden. He would visit with her and she sure loved him. I don’t know anyone who didn’t love him. He was always ready with a hug for me. He will be missed. My sincerest condolences to all of the family. My love and prayers are with you as you transition without him.
Love Always, Phyllis and Glenn Pate

He was the strongest person that I ever knew. From being able to carry a tractor engine fron one side of the shop to the other or to endure the burdons of life, I have seen it with my own eyes. The only complaint he ever had was how so many others could make petty excuses about what keep them from achieving their goals. He was my hero, my teacher of the basics of life and my encouragement to grow to what I wanted to become.
