Ronald Alan Gilbert was born January 21, 1947 in Columbus, Georgia. After high school, he joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War and served overseas in Thailand. Upon his honorable discharge, Ron took a job with Georgia Power and retired after over 30 years of service. He was a devoted member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Georgia for over 50 years.
Family was always a priority for Ron and he deeply valued the time his family was together. He was a little league baseball coach for several years. Golf was more than a hobby to Ron, it was his favorite thing to do. He loved golf days with his friends and enjoyed golf trips to new courses around the southeast.
Ronald Gilbert, 74, of Smiths, Alabama passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in honor on Ron Gilbert at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Edgewood Presbyterian Church, 3617 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Edgewood Presbyterian Church, 3617 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan, and children, Jeff (Stephonie) Gilbert of Cartersville, GA, Julie (Roy) Cronise of Columbus, and Amy (Jeff) Kuechenmeister of Seale , AL. His beloved grandchildren are Connor Gilbert, Olivia Gilbert, Jacob Huckaby, Daniel Huckaby, Joseph Kuechenmeister (Jessica), and Elizabeth Kuechenmeister.
