Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Ronald T. Kirkland Sr. passed from this life June 4th, 2024. Ronald was born on May 13th, 1945 to parents, Louis and Merle Kirkland. He was born in Fort Benning, GA, and spent most of his adolescence in Columbus, GA alongside his sisters, Nancy and Nell.

Ronald met the love of his life, Lorraine, in school, but truly made their connection at work. They married in Columbus and would go on to parent and foster many children for over 30 years. He was a beloved father and husband.

Ronald was a man of God. His family says that “He was a hymn away from being his own church”. He loved the food business and spent his career in various restaurants such as Shoney’s, PoFolks, Pizza Hut, and S&S Cafeteria where he was a staple for the community. He also served at the Potter’s House Shelter for men in recovery.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Merle Kirkland; sister Nell, oldest son, Ronald T. Kirkland Jr; youngest son, Robert Kirkland; daughter, Starlene M. Kirkland; and grandson, Nathaniel Kirkland.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Gaddis Kirkland; sister Nancy; his daughters, Ginny L. Harrison (husband Glenn Sr.) of Fayetteville, GA; Georgia R. Zawlocki of Jonesboro, GA; and his grandchildren; Nicholas Zawlocki of Griffin, GA, Amber and Marion Kirkland of Atlanta, GA, and Glenn T Harrison Jr. of Fayetteville, GA.

Ronald will be remembered as someone who was always willing to lend a hand and proudly took care of his family. He taught his family work ethics, how to cook, and to have faith. He gladly greeted every new day with a smile, often saying that life was “wonderful marvelous-marvelous-wonderful.”
