Ruth Lorraine Homa, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 4, 2025, in Decatur, GA. She was born April 30, 1931, to Emil and Mildred (Jones) Ewald in Menominee, MI. Always blowing bubbles as a baby, her family nicknamed her “Bubbles.” Her father was a Justice of the Peace who married over 2700 couples in the family home. When they were old enough, Ruth and her sisters often would serve as witnesses. She graduated from Menominee High School in 1948. She married Walter Homa in Marinette, WI, on April 24, 1954.

Ruth resided in the Marinette-Menominee area most of her life. She worked several jobs, notably for over 18 years at Red Owl Foods. Afterward, she worked at the Lauerman Guest House Inn and the Dome Hotel. Ruth was fun, friendly, generous, and hard-working. She was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, good food, country music, and playing cards. She was also a dedicated Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan.

In 2019, Ruth moved to Georgia to be closer to her son David and his family. She made friends quickly with both residents and staff at her assisted living facility. She commented that people would call her “Miss Ruth” and seemed delighted by that. She remained a Packers and Brewers fan but would watch the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves with her family. She had weekly meals at her family’s house, enjoying the meals but always having room for dessert (her favorites were apple pie and ice cream). She also relished the attention given to her by their three small dogs and gave the affection back. Her family feels blessed having her be a bigger part of their lives.

Ruth is survived by her son David (Patricia Mitchell) Homa; sisters Jean Vorachek and Mary (Douglas) Lueskow; grandchildren Benjamin, Alana (Onnolee Wierson), and Tyler Homa; and daughter-in-law Sheryle (Spaude) Homa. She is further survived by nieces Kathleen Kurdziel, Darlene Vorachek, Victoria Vorachek, Laura Johnson, and Janet Vorachek; and by nephews Paul, Michael, and Joel Lueskow. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Stephen Homa; brother-in-law Joseph Vorachek; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A service will be held in Menominee, MI in early summer, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Menominee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Dementia Society of America.

The family thanks the staff of Phoenix Senior Living in Tucker, GA, for the great care and friendship they provided Ruth during the past six years. The family also thanks the staff of Emory Decatur Hospital for the excellent care they provided her during her final illness.
