Ms. Sandy Whatley, age 73, of Riverdale, Georgia, passed away in the evening hours of October 17th, 2026. Born to Nettie Whatley, formerly Henderson, and the late James Washington, Sandy was originally from Long Island, New York. At age 3, she and her parents moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where her sister Kimberly was born, and where the pair grew up together. Later in life, she finally settled in Riverdale, Georgia. 

Sandy was born and raised Baptist, but outside of religious life, she was also an avid sports fan, particularly for the Falcons. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as her cherished dogs, Zena and Seth. In the winter of Sandy’s life, she endured a hard battle with cancer. Though her struggle was great, she is remembered fondly by those in her life as being stubborn and feisty until the end. To the family and friends who knew and loved her, she will be missed greatly. 

She is preceded in death by her father, James Washington. 

She is survived by her mother, Nettie Whatley; and her sister, Kimberly Wheat, both of Riverdale, Georgia; as well as many cousins and friends.
