Scarlett Rebecca Parrish Gabberd was born Monday September 10, 1962 in Phenix City, Alabama. She was born the fourth child of the late Q.P. Parrish and Bobbie Whittaker Chandler.
She married Mike Gabberd March 21, 2003 where she was blessed with a happy, loving life. Mike and “Babe” enjoyed working together, laughing and joking around with each other.
Scarlett welcomed two sons, Tommy Shane Simmons (spouse Cathey) and Allen Paul Simmons from her first marriage and a bonus son, Michael Gabberd (spouse Jessica) with her second marriage. Her heart and arms were full with grandchildren Devon, Stacey Nicole, Serenity and Josiah. She was excited to learn that a new baby Gabberd was arriving soon.
She will be lovingly remembered by her Uncle Don and Aunt Tiny Helms, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her siblings Gail Clark, Rocky Parrish, Lynn Golden, Angela Pigman, Melani Morrison and Joseph Chandler describe Scarlett as the sister who, “Lived her life the way she wanted to and never apologized for who she was.”
Scarlett passed away Thursday January 17, 2019 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus Georgia. Scarlett was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. She fought and won the battle twice staying positive and strong throughout the treatments at the Cancer Center in Opelika Alabama. The third occurrence was diagnosed at St. Francis hospital in Columbus Georgia, taking the life of this strong willed, independent, loving woman.
Scarlett’s brothers and sisters appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers during this time from family and friends, especially the unconditional love from Mike. In 2003, Mike vowed to love her in sickness and in health, until death do them part – Mike lived his vows every day of his life with Scarlett.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton, Georgia with Rev. Cullen Clements officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the service hour.
The Gabberd Family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 7500 Veterans Parkway, Suite A, Columbus, Georgia 31909, 706-577-0055. The family invites you to leave a condolence or share a fond memory below.

To the family of Scarlett Rebecca Parrish Gabberd, so sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in Jesus promise at John 5:28,29 “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.” Deepest Sympathy

The former things have passed away.”
