On Monday, January 27, 2020, Steven ‘Steve’ Oetjengerdes, father, brother and friend, passed away at the age of 66.
Steve was born on February 24, 1953 in Bronx, NY to Mary and Larry Oetjengerdes. He was a bright student but after high school decided to serve his country, joining the US Navy from 1973-1981. After the military, he worked for the NY State Department of Transportation.
Steve had a passion for writing. He prided himself on his penmanship, crafting extraordinary letters. He was also an avid artist and loved to cook. He was known as a diehard Yankees fan and despite being a true blue New Yorker, he cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. Steve will be best remembered for his quick wit, his kind, compassionate spirit and strong love for animals, particularly dogs. Throughout his life he rescued and adopted numerous pups.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary and Larry, as well as his brothers Brian, Kenny and Gordon. He is survived by his son Steve Jr, sister Patty, brother Larry, dear friend Terri Smith as well as several nieces and nephews.
