SPEER, Thomas William Speer Sr.,

Born March 11, 1949 at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland

Died August 15, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice in Decatur, Georgia

 

Tom is survived by his wife of 16 years, Robin Thompson Speer of Atlanta, Georgia; his children, Kimberly Speer Monast (Jim) of McDonough, Georgia and Thomas Jr. (Yvette) of Commerce, Georgia; her children David Hunt (Adele) of Nashua, New Hampshire and Ryan Hunt (Irene) Raleigh, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters nationwide: Jim, Carol, Charles, John, Mike and Melanie. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Speer, Sr. (2002) and Audrey Martin Speer (2010).

 

Tom enjoyed business success as the co-owner of Huntleigh Bus Atlanta of Forest Park Georgia. Tom and Robin made their home in the Morningside community of east Atlanta Georgia, but as a child of military service people, he lived all across the country and abroad.

 

Tom was a Navy Corpsman who served aboard the USS Enterprise in the Vietnam Era. Tom’s father, James Edward Sr., served aboard the same ship as a Master Corpsman. Tom’s brothers also served in the Navy and Air Force.
