Ms. Gertrud Maria “Trudy” Bishop, age 84, of Palmetto, passed away March 22, 2020.
Ms. Trudy was born in Pirmasens, Germany on August 26, 1935 to the late Robert and Rosel Hineschied. She grew up in Wartime Germany alongside her six brothers and sisters. As a young woman, Ms. Trudy and her sister would attend military dances, where she met the American Army Officer, Ron Bishop. The couple wed in February of 1956 and soon moved to the United States. As the Army relocated the young couple around the country, their family expanded to include two sons and three daughters. Ms. Trudy was a homemaker for many years while she raised her children.
In 1971, the Bishop family moved to Atlanta and within a few years Ms. Trudy began working at the PX store at Fort McPherson. She spent about 15 years in Atlanta until her final move to Palmetto in 1986. Ms. Trudy enjoyed her life in the small town with friendly neighbors and was a well-loved cashier at Bradley’s Grocery Store. Ms. Trudy eventually left Bradley’s to enjoy her retirement.
Ms. Trudy was generous and friendly. She loved her country and was a proud United States citizen. She appreciated her quiet life in America. She enjoyed knitting and visiting with family and friends. She was a kind neighbor who would often bake cookies for her local friends. She was a loving mother, “Oma,” and sister who will be dearly missed. Her life was one of few wants other than to be generous to those around her.
Along with her parents, Ms. Trudy was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years: Walter “Ron” Bishop; son: Walter Ron Bishop, Jr; brothers and sisters: Walter Hineschied, Fritz Hineschied, Elfriede Phillips and Annelisa Maltibe. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Pam and Jim Roof of Duluth, Linda and Bill Lemers of Mesa, AZ, Pat Bishop of Orlando, FL, Robert and Mary Louise Bishop of Fredericton, CA; daughter-in-law: Grace Bishop of Newnan; grandchildren: Melissa Abee, Michelle Bishop, Jackson Roof, Jonathan Roof and Sara Heath; brothers: Robert Hineschied and Peter Hineschied, both of Germany.
The Bishop family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 W, Fayetteville. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com.

I am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Ms. Trudy lived a long and generous life. Take comfort in knowing that God has promised we can see our loved ones again. Acts 24:15: “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Our caring God will give you strength to cope.
