It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Wendi Leigh Haislip. Better known as Wendi Lou and Nana to those in her cherished circle. Wendi left her earthly home on January 28, 2025, at the age of 57, due to natural causes.
Born on October 28, 1967, Wendi was the first daughter, granddaughter, niece, and cousin in her family. She was born a leader and nurturer- A role that would define entire life in the most positive of ways.
Wendi grew up in Clayton and Coweta County, attending East Coweta and then North Clayton Highschool where she graduated in 1985. If you ask a high school friend what Wendi was most well-known for, they will surely say her naturally golden blonde hair that went all the way to her waist, her wicked talent on the softball field, and her big, wide, beautiful smile.
Wendi went on to be a loving Mamma to her two kids Cassie and Jon, Cassie’s husband Daniel and Jon’s wife Christa. She was an amazing Nana to grandsons, Colby, Wyatt, and Flint. Also, in the mix of the lucky ones to have received Wendi’s nurturing love are the numerous fur babies that she selflessly adopted all the years of her life.
At the time of her passing, Wendi was very close with her little brother Eddy who she teasingly but lovingly called Edwina, her high school best friend Cristy and so many others that are too numerous to name but know exactly how special they were to Wendi because she made sure of it. Wendi was also especially close to her Aunt Janice, who had been like a sister, a second mamma, and friend to her cherished niece from the time she was born.
In addition to being a great friend and social butterfly, Wendi was a very talented artist and loved to paint. She loved to go to the beach and spend time laughing and hanging out with her friends and family. Not everyone knows it, but Wendi was a great dancer! Most importantly, she was kind, generous, loving, and was the owner of an amazing laugh and beautiful smile that brightened every room she walked into. Wendi will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Wendi is preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) Haislip Sr. and Toni Pierce, her maternal and paternal grandparents, and her uncle Bob Haislip.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law Cassie and Daniel Coleman of Manchester, TN, her son and daughter in law Jon and Christa Varnes of Concord, GA, brother Eddy Haislip of Hampton, Ga, grandsons Colby Coleman, Wyatt Coleman, Flint Varnes, and her closest companion, her beloved kitty Lucy-Bug.
In memoriam, Wendi’s children and grandchildren would like to share the following sentiments about their beautiful Mama and Nana.
From Wendi’s daughter Cassie,
My mom embodied kindness, spreading love, generosity, and forgiveness with a compassionate heart. I often teased her about being too selfless, but to her, it was simply her nature.
She inspired me, rejoicing in every small triumph with enthusiasm. Whether I succeeded or stumbled, she always said she was proud. Whenever I needed encouragement, I turned to her; she would fill me with positive affirmations and would say you just need a bowl of butter pecan ice cream.
She was a numbers whiz! Whenever we went grocery shopping, she could tally the groceries with her pen and scratch paper from her purse, then calculate the tax in her mind and have the total correct down to the penny at checkout.
Her fried chicken was the best around, and she could transform any space into a cozy home with what she called her doo-dads and artwork.
I admired her ability to form meaningful connections and lasting friendships. She was extremely thoughtful and would always send handmade cards or personalized gifts to those special to her. Her beauty, love, and grace will forever be remembered.
From Wendi’s son, Jon,
Mama was one of a kind. She was the most giving person you would ever meet. She was the person who would give her last bit of food if she thought someone was hungry. She was so silly and had a contagious laugh. She would get so mad about the little pranks I would play on her to a point we would just sit there and laugh about all of it, then she would get me back.
Mama loved and she loved hard. It didn’t matter if she just met you or she has known you her entire life her love was true and yes, she did love me the most (haha!).
Mama, you will truly be missed, and I love you.
From Cassie’s son, Wendi’s grandson Colby,
I love her laugh and her passion for art. I loved her humor and the nights we stayed up and watched new shows on tv and she had the best sweet tea- No one can make sweet tea as good as my Nana. My favorite memory with her would have to be the first day she just bought her new car and not even ten minutes down the road we get pulled over for her tag that the officer just couldn’t see. I was so nervous! When he let us go, we just died laughing!
From Cassie’s son, Wendi’s grandson Wyatt,
I loved how much my nana loved me, Colby, and Flint. She was so funny; she always said when we go over to her house, she was going to tickle us until she’s tired. She was so artistic, and she loved making things with us. She loved making memories and always wanted to take pictures. She loved making us happy when we were down, she made us happy. She really loved us. I love how she loved animals just like me, by bringing random cats’ home because they were cold and hungry. My favorite memory with my nana was when my uncle Puppy (Jon), Christa, and Flint were in the car, and we saw my Nana got pulled over. We turned around then my Puppy pulled up to the car and asked the officer what happened he said he couldn’t see the tag, and I said probably because she used gum to stick the tag to the windshield. My Nana was cracking up laughing. I had the best time I’ve ever had with my Nana.
From Jon’s son, Wendi’s grandson, Flint,
She was kind and pretty. My favorite thing to was paint with her.

Wendi was a wonderful ray of sunshine. She touched so many in her lifetime. She helped everyone in need, even if it was her last can of soup. She never met a stranger. We met in high school then reunited in 2018. She was one tough cookie with a gentle spirit. Stubborn and giving at the same time. I am going to miss her so much.
She asked me if i would take care of her kitty. Lucy-bug, if anything were to happen to her. Yes! A million times yes. Because she would ask over and over to make sure Lucy went to where she would be loved. I assured her that I would take care of Lucy, Lucy will always feel loved, and I will spoil just like her mama did. She’s got her own water fountain( she a finicky drinker-ask anyone who knows her), a comfy kitty bed, her favorite treats and all the love she can take.
Rest peacefully, my friend. I’ve got it from here.

Such sweet and kind words that bring so much emotion and memories. She wanted so much good for everyone she loved and I pray comfort and peace for her family. Wendi is with our Lord and Savior. Her body is whole and healed. She is dancing and singing praises as we all morn her home going. I take comfort in that.
