FINN, William Thomas
Born: 11/21/1928 in New York City
Died: 02/17/2017 in Sugar Hill, GA
William “Bill” Finn died peacefully at home after a prolonged battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He brought joy, laughter, and love to family and friends; his smile and generous heart will be sorely missed.
Bill was an educator for 31 years, teaching math at Long Beach Junior High School, R. C. Murphy Junior High School where he served as department Chairman, and Ward Melville High School all on Long Island, N.Y. He was a resident of: New York City; Floral Park, NY; Smithtown, NY; Seneca, SC; Clemson, SC; Miami, FL; and Sugar Hill, GA.
He served in the US Army in Korea and Japan during the Korean War, and was a past Commander of the American Legion, James Ely Miller Post 833 in Smithtown, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary M. Finn, and children: William and Suzanne Finn of Medfield, MA; Maura McNulty-Finn of Albany, NY; Michael and Carly Finn of Suwanee, GA; Mary and Christophe Maille of Casablanca, Morocco; and Rose Finn and Edward Schauffert of Clifton Park, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Schug, of Floral Park, NY; numerous nieces and nephews; and 14 grandchildren: Peter, Mary, Clara, Edward, William, Anastasja, James, Madeline, Caitlin, Molly, Aidan, William Thomas, Amelia, and Jessica. He was predeceased by two sons, Lt. John Finn of Albany, NY and Charles William Finn of Smithtown, NY, two sisters and a brother.
A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory R. C. Church in Floral Park, NY on Friday Feb 24, 2017 at 10:30 am.
