John Elvan Wellons, Jr., 74, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away on May 23, 2026.
John was born on November 14, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA to John and Barbara (Lowery) Wellons. He grew up in Philadelphia alongside his parents and his siblings. Johnny, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Germantown High School in Philadelphia and went on to Cheyney University in Cheyney, PA.
While attending a social club in Philadelphia, Johnny met a beautiful young woman named Anita. The two were smitten with each other and quickly became inseparable. The beautiful young couple married after Johnny was in the Navy. He then went to work for the Pennsylvania State Police and moved from Philly to Blackwood, NJ and later went to work for SEPTA Transit Police. Several years later Johnny and Anita decided to make a big move, he took a job with Delta Air Lines and the two settled down in deep south.
In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed gardening and flying remote-controlled planes. He spent his last few years caring for his dog Amber, Day Trading, and learning Spanish.
John was preceded in death by his wife: Anita Gross Wellons; his parents: John Elvan Wellons, Sr. and Barbara Lowery Wellons. He is survived by his brother: Gregory Wellons and his wife Barbara of Langhorne, PA; and his sister: Pamela Wellons Byrd of Newport News, VA; numerous cousins, neices and nephews and his furry companion: Amber.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St Jude Children’s research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association in Mr. Wellons’ memory.
