Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Bonnie Louise Smith passed from this life on January 11th, 2025. Bonnie was born on July 15th, 1948, in Atlanta, GA to parents Jack and Laura Duffey. She grew up alongside her brother Jack Duffey, Jr. and many special cousins.

Bonnie graduated from Fulton High School and lived in Forest Park, GA, for 35 years. During this time, she was a member of Ash St. Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church functions with friends. Bonnie was on the board of directors for the local chapter of Parents without Partners International and volunteered at Samaritans Together. She was active with the Clayton County Republican Party and the Republican Women’s Club.

Bonnie retired from Dekalb County Family and Children Services as a personnel tech. She loved her friends and family, and spending time with them brought her the most joy in life.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; Jack Duffey Sr. and Laura Duffey, brother; Jack Duffey Jr. and many special cousins and friends. Bonnie is survived by her daughter Samantha Smith and special son-in-love, Norman Johnson, both of McDonough, GA.

There will be a memorial service held on January 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Morrow First United Methodist Church, 5985 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, GA, 30260.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to the Good Shepherd Clinic in her memory.

She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I met and worked with her at DFCS at 1West Court Square in Decatur, Ga. We were friends all thru the time we moved and worked at the new building. She was a happy person and was full of funny quips that kept us laughing. I had no idea she was ill. So sorry. Much love to her daughter, who she loved so much! We had many good times together. God Bless the whole family and may He comfort each and every one of you. I loved her.

Sam, although I was never privileged to meet your mother in person, I feel like I knew her through our many discussions about our Moms. I shared a similar relationship with my Mom: nobody loved you more deeply, fiercely, or sacrificially and pushed you to get the most out of your life, and then also knew just how to push your buttons. 😌 Believe it or not, you will actually miss her “button-pushing” too. I will be praying for you and Norman as you go through the difficult valley ahead, asking God to walk with you and give you comfort that only He can give. Please reach out to me if there is anything we can do for you.
