Join with us and remember the life and legacy of Albert Ronald Sutherland, a loving father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to so many. Albert passed away on June 3, 2020, after reaching the age of 80 years old. The oldest of five children, Albert was born to William and Gertie Sutherland in Anniston, Alabama, on September 23, 1939, and spent his childhood in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. He attended high school in Columbus, Georgia, and then enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service, he returned to live out his life in Columbus, where he went to work for Johnston Industries until his retirement.
An avid fisherman, Albert also loved to play handball. He enjoyed dining out with friends and family. Always good natured, he was a strong, proud, and independent man. A fan of westerns and country music, it was impossible to miss him in his cowboy hat and boots. His love for his family was evident as he would often travel to see family during holidays.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Juanita and Jean.
He will be remembered and missed by the family he leaves behind; His brother David of Jasper, AL., and sister Marcie Gates of Arroyo, CA., daughter Elizabeth (Michael) Spriggs of Montgomery, AL., grandchildren Mark (Crystal) Morena of New Castle, PA., and Aaron (Kim) Closuit of New Castle, PA.; great-grandchildren Khalil, Aden, Miles, Clara, Manuel, Amir, Gracie, Jay, Aya, Layla, and Axel; as well as other nieces and nephews.
His extended family included Johnny, whose friendship with Albert lasted over 50 years, and his neighbors: Sam, Paul, Kate, BJ and Kim.
Albert loved signs and quotes, and his loving family wishes to leave you with one of his favorites:
“Love is forever letting go, and still always being there”.
