Bessie Mae Smith, 90, of Griffin, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Mrs. Smith was born in 1935 in Starks, Louisiana. In 1955, she made Georgia her home, where she built a life centered around family, love, and lasting memories. Bessie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved most. Her kindness, strength, and caring spirit touched the lives of many and will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Smith, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Brenda) Smith, Patricia Smith, and Gordon (Gail) Smith; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Horton, Jessica (Justin) Dunn, Danielle Smith, Hannah Smith, and Benjamin Smith; great-grandchildren, Tripp, Ivey, and Esme; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews in Louisiana.

Bessie also had a love for Mardi Gras and enjoyed the excitement of slot machines and a good game of bingo. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the moments spent with family and friends.

Bessie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on through the generations she cherished so dearly.
