The Life and Legacy of Cecil Bush

Cecil Bush was born on April 19, 1944, in Henderson, Tennessee, to James and Hattie Bush. He was educated in the public schools of Gibson County, Tennessee, where he graduated from Rosenwald High School.

From an early age, Cecil possessed an independent spirit and a desire to build a life of his own. On the very night of his high school graduation, he left Tennessee for the city life of Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, Cecil worked for the USPS, later leaving to travel the country setting up trade shows in the convention industry. Cecil always shared fond memories of his travels, but this industry also introduced him to carpet and the flooring business.

Cecil moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1979. Throughout his life, Cecil was a hardworking man and skilled professional who spent the majority of his career in the carpet industry. An entrepreneur at heart, he owned and operated his own business on three separate occasions. During his career in Atlanta, Cecil also worked for Dalton Carpet Connections for several years before once again following his entrepreneurial spirit and establishing his final business, Cecil’s Carpet Connections. His work ethic, determination, and willingness to build something of his own were qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

Anyone who knew Cecil knew his love for music. James Brown and B.B. King were among his
favorites, and when the music started, Cecil was rarely far from the dance floor. He was known for
his signature style of dancing, a combination of Chicago stepping and his unmistakable quick-footed
movements. His talent on the dance floor earned him victories in countless dance competitions and
created memories that his family and friends will forever cherish.

Just as music brought Cecil joy, his faith gave his life purpose and foundation. Cecil was a devoted
believer who loved God and loved being in His presence. During the latter years of his life, he
attended Divine Faith Ministries before becoming a member of World Changers Church International
in 2018. At World Changers, Cecil was an active member of the church, participated in the Men’s
Ministry, and found great joy in attending church, fellowshipping with others, praising God, and
continuing to grow in his faith.

On October 2, 2026, the Lord called Cecil to rest. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son,
Cecil Tyrone Murriel; his brothers, Euther Lee Sadler, James Bush Jr., and William Bush; and his
sisters, Katherine Esters, Lurine Lane, Evelyn Wilson, Eva White, and Mattie Perkins.

Family was at the center of Cecil’s life. He loved deeply and showed that love not only through his
words, but through the way he lived and cared for those around him. A chance meeting between
neighbors blossomed into a lasting love and 43 years of matrimony. As a husband, father,
grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbor, and friend, Cecil leaves
behind a legacy of love that will continue through the many lives he touched.

Cecil will live on in the countless cherished memories of his wife, Jacquelyn Dotson Bush; his
children, Jeffrey Spencer (Carolyn) Murriel (Dallas, TX), Cecil Bush Jr., Byron Bush, Rhonda Bush,
Lisa Bush (Chicago, IL), Nicholas Bush, and Nicole Bush (Atlanta, GA); his sister, Joyce Bush (Las
Vegas, NV); his in-laws, JoAnn (Joy) Bush, George (Catherine) Dotson, Barbara Miley, Johnnie
Dotson, Curtis Dotson, Brenda (Estanislao) Malcon, Ronald Dotson, and Theresa Dotson; his
grandchildren, Joshua White, Brianna Bush, Brinia Bush, Byron Bush Jr., Deontea Sanders,
Dominique Sanders, Cheryal Walker, Christopher Jeffers, Nausea Turner, Titus L. Bush, Chimere
Bush, Bryce Bush, and Simone Bush; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many
other relatives and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
