Ms. Dorothy “Marie” Westmoreland, age 79, lost her battle with Dementia on Friday May 31, 2019.
Marie was born in Alton, Illinois on July 17, 1939 to the late Leonard and Gladys Miller. She was a long-time resident of Toccoa, GA. Marie had piercing blue eyes, an infectious laugh, and a beautiful smile that lit up a room. She loved dancing and she had a true passion for singing. Marie was giving and caring, almost to a fault. She will be remembered for her trusting and loving heart.
Marie had 3 husbands in her life: Sidney Robertson, Dwain Fowler and Roy Westmoreland, all who have passed. Her greatest love, however, was her karaoke partner Roy Fitzgerald, who passed away in 2015.
The last several years of her life Marie slowly lost herself to Dementia. She was well loved and cared for her by her daughter, Peggi, and husband, Joe, who Marie thought of as a son. Marie was strong during her journey with Dementia, as she was throughout her life.
Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Peggi and Joe Cordero of Atlanta; son: Bobby of Texas; daughter: Corinne Anne Robertson of Alberta, CA; grandchildren: Nathan (Ashley), Corina, and Danniel; 2 great-grandchildren; sister: Leona of Tennessee; and many extended family and friends throughout Georgia.
Weather permitting, a celebration of life will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Toccoa Falls at Toccoa Falls College, 325 Chapel Drive, Toccoa, GA. A reception of great memories, great friends, great food and a celebration of Marie’s life will be held immediately following the service at Pings Grill at Lake Toccoa, 201 Black Mountain Road, Toccoa, GA. (Casual attire.) Marie’s angel dust will be scattered at her mother’s grave in Oklahoma later this year.
The family of Ms. Marie would like to express their appreciation to those who have sent prayers and condolences. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to House of Cherith Atlanta, www.cityofrefugeatl.org.
Ms. Marie’s family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville. Messages of condolence may be left at www.GeorgiaCremation.com.
