Only those who encountered Denise could understand how she had such a pure and light spirit. Even I was taken aback by how much the passing of someone who was a stranger to me about 2 years ago, could impact me so hard.
I think God sent Denise into my son’s and I’s lives at a time when He knew we just needed someone. Her words of encouragement and kindness truly helped me through some very difficult and dark times… She always knew when I was at my wits end, no matter how hard I tried to hide it, she just had a way. I hope she knew she made a huge positive impact on my life while I navigated single motherhood with a special needs child. She was the perfect combo of a great friend and cool young aunt who could share laughs as well as impart wisdom and great advice. She loved my son and would send him things to help with his therapy with at her own cost, eventhough she was just his therapist. This was how much Denise cared about her kids and was truly the best occupational therapist we could’ve ever asked for. Now she is my beloved friend and his bonus auntie.
I just felt compelled to put this here, perhaps for my own bit of closure and to also reiterate publicly what an absolute gem of a person she was. So rare… so genuine…. We will never ever forget you Denise. Love you so much girl… Marissa and Brandon 💔💔💔💔
My Deeepest, most heartfelt condolences to her kids, husband, sister and all her family and friends. If this is the way I feel, I can only imagine how it must be for those who got to experience her greatness daily. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. 🙏🏼 🕊️ 🕊️

To Leroy, Johnathan, and Destiny from LaShonda, Donovan, and Tamara. Donovan and Johnathan played football together for Peachtree Ridge. Tamara and Destiny ice skated together. Denise and I became friends after the kids played sports together. You guys came to our housewarming party bearing gifts, hugs, and smiles. Denise even gifted me a leather jacket. Everytime we saw each other it was filled with so much warmth like real friends.
Denise always had something sweet to say about Tamara and Donovan. She always encouraged me and would have me laughing at something everytime I saw her. Denise was such a sweet sweet person. She surely will be missed.
Please know that Donovan, Tamara, and I are only a text or phone call away.
We love you and may you be comforted with support from your family and friends.

I am so glad our paths intersected and we remained friends and confidents over these past 30+ years.
What a privilege it was to have you as a friend and for my daughter has you as an aunt. Memories leave me in tears now, but in time, God willing I know will bring me joy.
May the light you’ve shone continue to burn bright long after you’ve gone. I will carry the memory of you always.
My prayers and love remain with those you held close, your husband and children, your sisters and mother, your extended family and friends.

From the moment I met Denise I knew that she was a very special person.
We had an instant bond that continued until her untimely passing.
We shared a love of special needs children, pressure cooking, and the love we had for our families.
I have so many wonderful memories of Denise: my giving her swimming lessons at my neighborhood pool, riding around looking at RV’s, and just catching up on the phone. She’d call me and say she just wanted to hear my voice and that meant so much to me.
She was so intelligent and a fantastic OT. I looked so forward to the days when she came to my classroom. She was such a bright light and all of the students felt it.
She loved her family and talked about them all of the time – especially Destiny, Jonathan and Leroy.
She talked about her siblings, especially Venise, She was heart broken when her older sister passed.
She told me a lot about her youth and how close she was to her siblings.
I love you Denise Hamm.
Carol Larro says
I am honored to have worked with Denise in the public schools. She was such an effective OT who truly cared for our kids. She spoke often of her love for her family. I know this must be so difficult for them so I pray for peace in your hearts. She accomplished so much in her short lifetime. What an amazing person she was. So many challenges and she gracefully and optimistically faced each one. She will be missed.
