Edward “Butch” Cassidy, aged 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Toledo, Ohio on August 23, 1948, Ed was the youngest of nine children born to the late Jack and Florence Cassidy. He spent several decades in the Audubon, Lansdale and Eagleville, Pennsylvania areas, where he was a dedicated employee for Keen Compressed Gas before recently relocating to Georgia to be closer to family. Ed was fiercely loyal to his family above all else, a proud man who was always the first to encourage those he loved with his signature phrase, “Good work by you.”
Known affectionately to many as “Butch,” Ed was a man who brought immense humor, humility, and a sharp, quick wit into every room he entered. He possessed a rare gift for making everyone he met feel instantly loved. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, a trait that was evident to anyone who knew him. He was also a legendary storyteller who often joked that he “came from a long line of embellishers.” Ed famously loved to tell people that he couldn’t wait till tomorrow. When asked why, he would pause, and say with a grin, “Because I get better looking every day.” Many will fondly remember just how much he made everyone around him laugh; he was truly an all-around great man who will be deeply missed by all. It was impossible to be a stranger to Ed for long, and he leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and deep kindness.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Christine Cassidy of Hoschton, Georgia, with whom he recently celebrated 38 beautiful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Megan Wilkinson (Rex), and his son, Cameron Cassidy (Dawn); and a loving stepfather to Stacie Freymann (Werner) and Andrea Mariani (Jim).
He was the proud grandfather to Paige Wilkinson, Jace McIntosh, Cole, Carter, and Noelle Cassidy, and Emma Freymann, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Kathy Cassidy (Jerry) and Dolores Neeb, as well as a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Florence Cassidy, and his beloved siblings: Jean, Bobby, Patricia, Jimmy, Barbara, and Marian.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ed’s memory.
