September 8, 1925 – October 21, 2026
Jean Elva Fawley, age 101, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a family who loved her dearly.
Jean was born on September 8, 1925, in Akron, Ohio, to Paul and Josephine Cunningham. The oldest of six children, she grew up during the Great Depression and came of age during World War II. Throughout her long life, Jean witnessed incredible changes in the world, but her love for family, nature, and life’s simple pleasures never changed.
Jean married her beloved husband, Dana Duane Fawley, who lovingly embraced her two daughters, Shirley and Judy, as his own. Together, Jean and Duane made their home in Peninsula, Ohio, on property that is now part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. They shared a love of the outdoors, camping, and traveling, especially their many adventures out West in their camper. Arizona and the Grand Canyon held a special place in Jean’s heart. Their trips often ended with a collection of rocks, Native American rugs, and wonderful stories to share.
Following Duane’s passing, Jean spent the next 35 years living independently in Stow, Ohio. She enjoyed her friendships, playing bingo, working on puzzles, shopping, and getting together with friends. She always appreciated the little things in life, whether it was watching the birds, admiring beautiful flowers, or simply enjoying a good conversation.
At the remarkable age of 98, Jean made the big move from Ohio to Georgia to be closer to her family. Fiercely independent, she continued living on her own until the age of 99, something she and her family were incredibly proud of. She later enjoyed the companionship of fellow residents, activities, bingo, and sharing memories of years gone by. Although she loved being close to her family in Georgia, she never quite stopped missing the beautiful Ohio snow.
Jean will always be remembered for her quick wit, sweet nature, warm smile, and the joy she brought to those around her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making people smile. She was blessed with a long and full life, and her family was equally blessed to have had her for 101 wonderful years.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dana Duane Fawley; her parents, Paul and Josephine Cunningham; her siblings, June Hall, JoAnn Bray, Harold Cunningham, Gerald Cunningham, and Donald Cunningham; her son-in-law, Phil Thatch; and her much-loved dog and faithful companion, Coco.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Ann Thatch and Judy (Skip) Reuscher; her grandchildren, Ray Thatch, Mike (Debbie) Thatch, Debbie Webb, Curt (Erin) Reuscher, Craig (Chris) Reuscher, and Kevin (McKencie) Reuscher; and her great-grandchildren, Parker Webb (Karl and Teagan), Myles Webb (Braqline), Blake Thatch, Olivia and Evan Reuscher, and Keegan and Caden Reuscher.
Jean was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends throughout her lifetime.
One hundred and one years. A lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and adventure. Jean’s life was a gift to everyone who knew her, and although she will be deeply missed, the memories she leaves behind will be treasured for generations to come.
Jean will be laid to rest in Peninsula, Ohio, a place she called home for many years.
